Snyder Smart Systems'
J. Edgar Swoop
This is J. Edgar Swoop. We have taken him as our mascot. He is an eagle who is not very regal. The source of this 'character' is a little known song that was first published on a vinyl record (remember those?) and tape by Mason Williams. The album was Classical Gas and was published in November 1967. By August of 1968 the song Classical Gas was on the top ten list, and also won three Grammies. For those of you not familiar with Mason Williams, he wrote the theme music for The Smothers Brothers Hour, along with many other great pieces of music.
One of the cuts on the album included a song about an eagle. The lyrics included a complete description of J. Edgar and his antics. So I just had to create him as our mascot. Check out the lyrics of the song to see if we have captured the essence of J. Edgar! E-mail me and let me know what you think.
The album Classical Gas has been re-released. It is called Classical Gas and is performed by Mason Williams and Mannheim Steamroller. Most of the cuts from the previous issue are on the new one, except the J. Edgar Swoop song. What a pity! It's still a great CD, however, and worth every penny.
By the way, if you happen to have an original vinyl record or tape of the 1967 Classical Gas, I would be interested in purchasing it from you.
